The Danger of Dental Negligence – Medicaid Dentist

Dental neglect is a form of medical malpractice that can lead to personal injury. Dental neglect can be the result of either negligence or harmful, intentional acts on the part of the dentist or his or her dental assistants or hygienists. When a personal injury occurs as a result of dental negligence, the victim can file a personal injury claim in an effort to seek compensation from the party responsible for their injuries. There are various situations and circumstances that could lead to dental neglect. When these incidents occur, it is important that those individuals that have worked carelessly with the health of another be held accountable for their actions or failure to act.

One of the common causes of dental neglect is misdiagnosis. When a patient schedules an appointment with the dentist, he or she expects that whatever problem they are experiencing will be properly diagnosed by the dentist. Since the dentist is a professional in their field, patients are correct in assuming that the dentist will discover and appropriately diagnose their dental problems. When a dentist misdiagnoses a dental problem, the patient may be subjected to expensive, painful, and unnecessary treatments. Furthermore, since the real problem is not being addressed the patient may suffer more damage because the actual dental issue was not valued in a timely manner.

Providing the proper treatment in a timely manner is important when addressing any type of illness or health problem. The same is true for dental work. If the dentist fails to provide adequate treatment to his or her patient, the patient may suffer a personal injury. This may lead to more extensive, costly, and distracting treatment than necessary if adequate treatment had been provided in a judicious manner.

Another reason for dental neglect is carelessness. Even if the dentist correctly diagnoses the problem and provides adequate treatment, if he or she acts carelessly while providing dental treatment an injury may result. If an operation is not properly performed or if dental instruments are not properly handled the patient may suffer an injury. Regardless of the cause of the injury, victims of negligence may be awarded compensatory damages for personal injuries resulting from dental neglect.
